How to Backup Windows 7 System Repair Disc with Unlocker

This tip will be useful for the following reasons:
  • For GRUB4DOS ISO Multiboot projects (which includes Win7 Repair discs)
  • Windows 7 only allow you to burn the disc and it will not allow you to copy/backup the disc as iso

Tools you'll need:

  • Unlocker
  • Any virtual machine tool to test the ISO and i'm using Vmware (Try mobalivecd its free)

Click Start, All Programs, Maintenance, Create a System Repair Disc and open temp (%temp%)

After opening system repair disc and the temporary folder click Create Disk button. It compiles and shows the System Repair Disc ISO in the temp for burning. But i don't want to burn the ISO

I just wanna backup the System Repair Disc!

if you try to copy with normal explorer (right click > copy or Ctrl+c) command windows will not allow you coz its been using by the Burning process (recdisc.exe)

Note: Killing/Terminating the process delete the iso in the temporary folder

For this you'll need some tools like Unlocker or anyother similar tools (i'm using Unlocker! )

  • Download & Install Unlocker
  • Right click the ISO file in the temp and select Unlocker (As you'll see The ISO's been locked by RECDISK.EXE)

Select Copy from the Action Dropdown list box and save it in your desired location

Finally checking the ISO with virtual machine (i'm using VMware)
